Rules and Guidelines

~ General Rules for Biking ~

Obey all applicable traffic regulations, signs, signals & markings.

Keep to the right. Bike with traffic, not against it. Ride single file.

Use hand signals to indicate turning or stopping.

Watch for car doors opening and for cars pulling out in front of you into traffic.

Communicate with other riders about road conditions and potential dangers.

  Don't Drink and Ride!

Headphones must not cover both ears.

If you ride at night, be sure you have the required reflectors and lights. Helmet lights, handle bar lights, tail lights and reflectors may save your life so don't leave home without them.

Know The Law !!

Check with your State Department of Transportation to find out the State Laws for bicycling before you ride in that state because not all states have the same laws.

~ ride guidelines ~

Each Club will have a set of guidelines for riding and you will need to know what they are before any club ride. Some typical guidelines are listed below:-

  • A helmet is mandatory for ALL club rides. It's good practice whenever you ride, even practice rides. Check your local and state requirements before riding outdoors.

  • Arrive early and be ready to leave on time for all rides.

  • Make sure your bike and accessories are in good working condition before you arrive.

  • Carry a spare tube, patch kit, tire irons, tools and water bottle.

  • Most Clubs rate their rides according to the degree of difficulty so don't sign up for a ride unless you know that you can do it. An example of Ride Classifications is published by the Delaware Valley Bicycle Club (DVBC).
